Pearl Front 1Pearl Front Detail

Pearl is a collaboration between Catherine M Royer and Mary Lou Olds. The front depicts a face in relief and the reverse side is woven, multi-colored fabric representing a window.

Pearl is assembled with a metal frame intended to display photos on clips, scraps of canvas and muslin, and discarded torn fabrics.  Pearl represents the many undervalued and discarded lives in our society.  Pearls become objects of great beauty and value but begin as a grain of debris.

Precious but not perfect

It grows in value and beauty,
even as it is confined.

Some are always hidden,
others discovered.
